Consistency: The Quiet Superpower in Martial Arts (and Life)
A parent spoke to me this week, apologising that their child wasn’t always fully focused during class. I appreciated their understanding of our principles here at Kato Martial Arts in Hornchurch, but I felt it wasn’t necessary to apologise.
Here’s why.
All days are different. Our energy, focus, and motivation shift day to day. This is true for every child (and every adult too). Some days we walk into the dojo buzzing with energy, ready to give 110%. Other days, we arrive feeling tired from school, work, or life, and that ‘best’ might look a little different.
But here’s the thing:
Turning up is what matters.
If your child walks through our dojo doors, they’ve already shown commitment and courage, no matter how they feel that day. They have turned up to do their best, and that best will look different each and every day. We see it, and we’re proud of them for it.
Martial arts isn’t about perfection. It’s about consistency.
Small, consistent efforts build confidence, resilience, and skills that go far beyond the mats. Whether your child trains in our Hornchurch classes or joins us in Romford, showing up – even on the days when it feels hard – is a powerful tool in their growth.
