Kato Martial Arts Takes on the EKCC Grand Cup!

What a day for Kato Martial Arts!

On Sunday 4th October, members of the Kato team travelled to Clacton to compete at the EKCC England Karate Club Championship Grand Cup, joining around 400 competitors for a huge day of martial arts competition.

With events running from 9am through to 5pm, it was a packed day of competition, nerves, determination and some seriously good performances.

And the Kato team came home with medals! 🥉🥈🥇

A Brilliant Result for Team Kato

Taking part in a competition of this size takes guts. Stepping onto the mat in front of judges, spectators and competitors from other clubs is an achievement in itself, and we’re incredibly proud of everyone who represented Kato.

A massive congratulations to:

Ibilola
Patsie
Dolcie
Gary
Diana
Michael
Kerry Ann
Harrison
Annabelle

Between them, the team brought home an awesome haul of 7 bronze medals and 1 silver medal.

Not bad for a day’s work. 👊

More Than Just Medals

Competition gives our students the chance to put their training into practice outside the familiar surroundings of the club.

It means dealing with nerves, performing under pressure, adapting to unfamiliar opponents and having the confidence to step forward when your name is called.

Win, lose or medal, every competitor comes away having learned something.

That experience comes straight back onto the mats at Kato, ready for the next training session, the next challenge and, of course, the next competition.

As Master Fowden said after the event:

“Congratulations, you’ve all done yourself, the club and me very proud.”

We couldn’t agree more.

A huge thank you as well to everyone who travelled to Clacton, supported the competitors and helped make the day such a great experience for Team Kato.

400 competitors. Nine Kato competitors. Eight medals. One very proud club.

KATO! 👊🏻
