The Havering Interclub Martial Arts League 2026

The Havering Interclub League is the perfect next step for Martial Arts students looking to gain competitive experience in a safe, controlled, and friendly environment. If you train in Hornchurch, Romford, or Emerson Park, an Interclub is the ideal environment to grow your skills.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this full-contact fighting?

Can I pay the entry fee by bank transfer or card?

No. As per the Event Organiser’s specific policy, all entry fees and spectator fees must be paid in CASH ONLY. Please bring the exact change if possible.

Do I need to buy my own sparring gear?

You must have your own mouth guard. For gloves, we can offer a loan pair for the day, but we recommend purchasing your own directly from the club. This ensures your gear is 100% competition-approved for safety. Plus, our member pricing is cheaper than buying in stores.

Can a White Belt or new student enter?

Yes. Interclubs are specifically designed as an introduction to competition. Students are matched based on age, height, and grade where possible to ensure fair categories.

Can parents and family watch?

Yes. We encourage friends and family to support. There is a £5 spectator fee (payable on the door, Cash Only). Please note that space may be limited.

Why Enter an Interclub?

If you train in Hornchurch, Romford, or Emerson Park, an Interclub is the ideal environment to grow your skills.

  • Experience: Learn how to manage adrenaline and perform under pressure.
  • Safety: These events are “Light Contact.” Aggression is not tolerated; technique and control are rewarded.
  • Community: It is a chance to meet students from other local clubs and build the Havering martial arts community.

How does the Team Format work?

Entrants will be organised into teams (usually 2–6 members depending on total numbers). Your team will face another team in a ‘match’.

Each match ends after a set time period (4–6 minutes depending on team size) or when a team reaches 12 points—whichever arrives sooner. The full timetable will be announced nearer the event.

How do substitutions and scoring work?

Each team is assigned a Coach (usually a senior belt) who manages strategy but does not fight.

  • Substitutions: The coach will shout ‘Change’. The current fighter steps off, and the next team member steps in. The timer is not paused during these moments.
  • Scoring: When a point is scored, the referee calls it and fighting is paused. Both fighters return to starting positions, and the referee resumes the match.

Can I choose my own team?

No. To keep the competition fair and ensure matches are not one-sided, the instructors will organise the teams based on age, size, and grade.

What if a team member misses an event?

If a team member cannot make all three events, you may be assigned to another team for the duration of the tournament to ensure team numbers remain balanced.
