Kato Martial Arts Steps onto the Mats: Our First Interclub Competition!
At Kato Martial Arts, our roots are firmly planted in self-defence. While that style of training is incredibly effective for real-world scenarios, it is often simply too tough to practice safely in a touch-sparring or competition environment.
That is why, this past weekend, we decided to test our skills in a brand-new arena: the world of Sports Karate!
Hosted by our good friends at S.E.S.K (Southern England School of Karate), this Interclub competition was the perfect, safe environment for our students to step onto the mats, face their nerves, and put their training into practice.
How It Worked: The Team Format
Rather than individual knockouts, the matches were divided into age groups. Each age group was then split into teams consisting of a fantastic mixture of both Kato and S.E.S.K students.
This created an incredible atmosphere! Coaches swapped students in and out of the action, meaning everyone got plenty of mat time, and fighters from different clubs learned to work together as a unified squad. The teamwork, respect, and resilience on display were outstanding.

- 3rd Place – Raptors: Lily, Kiran, Tommy, Omoyeni, Alex
11-12 Years

12-15 Years
