Even Masters Need Maintenance: Why We Trust MC Osteopathy
In Martial Arts, we teach invincibility in spirit, but we have to remember that our bodies are still human! Whether you are a white belt or a Shifu, pushing your body to the limit requires maintenance.
Recently, our very own Master Fowden had a reminder of this. While demonstrating a technically difficult move – a standing forward roll designed to break a fall – he managed to tweak his back. (Don’t worry, he stuck the landing, but the back complained about it afterward!).
Instead of “powering through” and making it worse – which is a mistake many beginners make – he went straight to the expert.
The Role of Osteopathy in Martial Arts
Master Fowden visited Michelle Carlin at MC Osteopathy.
Michelle is fantastic because she understands the mechanics of sport. She doesn’t just treat the pain; she looks at why it happened. For martial artists, who rely on high kicks, rapid twists, and impact, having an osteopath who understands body mechanics is essential.
Michelle was able to identify the strain, treat the area, and provide exercises to strengthen the supporting muscles, getting Master Fowden back to teaching much faster than if he had just rested.
Our Advice for Students
If you feel a tweak, a pull, or a persistent ache, don’t ignore it. The sooner you treat an injury, the sooner you are back to full training.
We cannot recommend Michelle at MC Osteopathy enough. She keeps us moving, so we can keep you training.
